“I used to think about my family, and I would say to God, when I was very young, I would ask, ‘God, am I going to die here?’ I started rebelling at a very young age—around eight years old. But now, as I’ve come to understand another side of life—that God is the owner of everything—I’m working at the restroom in Setor Comercial Sul, at Instituto No Setor.
Everyone in Setor Comercial Sul uses that restroom. People from all kinds of backgrounds go there. And many of them see how clean and pleasant it is, you know? The smell of bleach and everything—it’s really well kept. Sometimes they give five or ten reais, like, ‘here, this is for you to have a coffee.’ I believe it has always been God in my life. He opened a door for me here, where He uses people to bless whoever He wants, when He wants. And I was one of those privileged ones who were blessed. I came out of the mud, out of the pit, to have something like a home, you know? To have comfort—to have a place, and even reconnect with my family.”
